Our Events
What Happens at an Our Hearts to Your Soles Event? Our Hearts to Your Soles has been putting on events since February 2006. The general concept and organization of each event have been similar from the beginning. Volunteers first unload the shipments of shoes and arrange them by size. The less fortunate are orderly put into a queue. The patient first sees the physician to have a free foot examination in which callouses and toenails are trimmed. Subsequently, the patient is then directed to the pedorthist or volunteer who measures his or her feet, fits the patient with a new pair of shoes, and supplies him or her with one or more pairs of new socks. By describing the events, we hope that you have a better feel for the work that Our Hearts to Your Soles does.
The Journey from March 2007 to Thanksgiving 2009 Under this section of the website, the reader can learn more about the accomplishments of Our Hearts to Your Soles starting with our first national event in 10 states in March 2007. From March to Thanksgiving 2007, we expanded our outreach to 23 sites across the United States and were able to shoe over 3000 men around Thanksgiving. Our Hearts to Your Soles continued to grow the following year when 12 new sites were added, which increased our total number of sites to 35 in almost as many states and served 4000 of the less fortunate. By Thanksgiving 2009, we had 42 sites in about 40 states and doubled the number of needy that we had reached in the previous year for a total of 8000 people served in approximately one week.
Please look through the events on our website and get a glimpse of the amazing journey we have had at Our Hearts to Your Soles. We are already in the process of planning this year's event, and we hope to continue to widen our services and increase the number of shoes that we are able to give out. |
